June
Presidentís Message Friends,
I'd like to thank everyone who turned out to march for BHBI in the
Salute to Israel@60 Parade last May.
We had a nice sized contingent to represent our congregation and show
the community our BHBI spirit!
Please see the photo on our shul website – just click on the
"Pics" link in the side menu, and then the "Israel@60"
link. Our
annual congregational meeting was held on May 18, with quorum present. I would like to thank the
congregation for its vote of confidence in electing me to a second term as
your President. As always, I
remain open to your suggestions and comments on improving our congregation
– feel free to contact me at any time. I'd like to thank Stan Schaffer for heading the nominating
committee and to thank all of you who have agreed to serve as officers and on
our Board of Trustees for the year to come. I'd particularly like to thank Katy Metlay who will be
serving on the Board for her first time! Coming
up in June will be Shavuot, the last of the yearly cycle of Festivals, on
which we celebrate the giving of the Torah on Mount Sinai. We will begin our holiday celebrations
with a shul dinner on Sunday, June 8, at 6 pm. A delicious meal and a good time are guaranteed for all. Please see the reservation form on
page 4 of this bulletin for details, and please send in your reservations as
soon as possible so that we can plan for the right amount of food. Following dinner we will have Shavuot
eve services and a Torah study session, beginning at 8 pm. Shavuot morning services then follow
on Monday, June 9, at 9 am.
Shavuot second day services, including yizkor, will be Tuesday, June
10, at 9 am, held jointly at BHBI with our friends from Temple Beth Am. Can't
come to Friday evening services?
Let Friday evening services come to you! On Friday, June 20, BHBI will hold Shabbat evening services
at Heather Heights, an assisted living community where long time members Ben
and Muriel Hobel now reside.
Heather Heights is located at 160 W Jefferson Road, between Clover St.
and Main St. Pittsford. Services
will begin at 7:00 pm. Ben's
birthday is June 18, so please come out to Heather Heights both to welcome
Shabbat and to wish Ben a very happy birthday! In
July, BHBI will host a very special event that we hope will become an annual
tradition. On Saturday, July 19th,
following Shabbat morning services, we will have the 1st Annual Simon
Finkelman Memorial Lecture at 1 pm.
To initiate this lecture series it is our great pleasure to have as
our distinguished speaker Rabbi Shamai Kanter. Rabbi Kanter is well known to the Rochester community, having
served for many years until his retirement as senior Rabbi at Temple Beth
El. So please save the date and
look for further details in our July Bulletin. See you in shul,
Steve

MAKE YOUR RESERVATIONS FOR THE
SHAVUOT DINNER SOON!
Shavuot will be here before you know it. See Page 4 for more details.
DO YOU HAVE FRIENDS WHO ARE
UNAFFILIATED?
Tell
them about BHBI and let them know that BHBI is Rochesterís friendliest
shul! Then invite them to attend
our Shavuot dinner or any of our services – they will be sure to get a
wonderful welcome. We would also
be happy to add them to our bulletin distribution list.
