May Presidentís Message

Friends,

This month marks my last note to you as President of our congregation as I reach my two year term limit set by our constitution.  It has been a rewarding and challenging two years.   I look forward to serving the congregation in other capacities in the years to come and I ask you to give your full support to my successor.

Our annual Membership Meeting will take place Sunday, May 17, at 7:00 pm at BHBI.  At this meeting we will approve our upcoming year's budget and vote in our congregational officers and trustees for a new term, including our new President.  A slate of proposed candidates is listed on Page 2 of this bulletin.  The Membership Meeting is also your opportunity to voice any concerns or comments you may have about the state of our congregation.  If you are unable to attend, please send your proxy with another member.  A member may hold up to two proxies, however only attending members can count towards a quorum, so do please make every effort to attend personally.  Members must be in good standing in order to vote.

On Shabbat morning, May 23, we will have a special Birthday and Anniversary Kiddush, sponsored by Janet Grable to honor everyoneís birthday and anniversary all year round!  You all know from past experience that this is something you don't want to miss!  So please be sure to come.  Thursday evening, May 28, starts the holiday of Shavuot, marking the giving of the Torah on Mount Sinai.  We will start the holiday off with a shul dairy dinner Thursday at 6:00 pm.  Everyone who has come to our dinners in the past knows that the food will be great and a good time will be had!  Please see the reservation form on Page 5 of this Bulletin and send it in to the shul office by May 22, so we will know how many to prepare for.  Friends are invited!

See you in shul,

Steve Teitel

The congregation wishes a speedy recovery to Muriel and Ben Hobel and to Sherwood Snyder who have recently been hospitalized.

Counting the Omer

We count the Omer to mark the days from Passover to Shavuot.  The counting of the Omer began on the first night of Passover and continues each night thereafter as we count a week of weeks between the Festival of Freedom and the Festival of the Giving of the Torah.  Traditionally, we do not attend parties or other happy events during this period.
